The primary goal of my hobby is to produce high quality show and breeding dogs. Not all puppies are born to be show dogs. There are many
factors that go into my decision to place a puppy as a companion
not to be bred or a show hopeful. I endeavor to produce puppies
with excellent temperaments that will be wonderful to own whether
they go to a show, performance or companion home, but sometimes a
pup is ideal for show except for temperament. It takes a rather
bold, fearless temperament to do well in the show ring. Not all
puppies that have the conformation for show have the temperament
to go with it. Sometimes puppies have a very showy temperament but
lack the outstanding conformation characteristics to make a
successful show dogs. These pups are often ideal for performance.
Sometimes, puppies are too small or too large for show but are
well suited for performance or companion homes. Each puppy is an
individual and is judged and placed on the basis of his or her
merit. The closer they are to meeting the standard for the breed,
the better the chances are for them to be show prospects. It is
not easy to judge which is the best pup, but the only way to
guarantee that a dog is show quality is to show it and win with
it. Some breeders grow out pups until they are about 6 months when
they can be more sure of the pups show potential. I have found
that most people do not want to wait until a pup is 6 months to a
year old to get it, so I sell the best pups at 10 weeks as show
potential. I feel that the pups greatly benefit from the
individual attention of the new owners. I guarantee a show pup to
stay in size, have no disqualifying faults, normal eyes, and
hips and have a good bite. If one of the show prospects doesn't
meet these criteria, I refund to pet price. That is usually a $200
refund with proof that the dog has been spayed or
neutered. Again, many things can ruin a pup for show; lack of
socialization, no training, improper ear training, poor diet, etc.
I can only offer a puppy as having correct conformation for it's
age and a temperament that shows signs of being a good show dog. I
hope that this gives you an idea of how I evaluate the pups. Thank
you for your patience and interest in my dogs.
